What age should my child start dancing?

At Studio 301, we take pride in guiding dancers of all ages and levels through their first dance class. With our variety of class offerings and beginner-friendly atmosphere for all ages, you can be sure to find the perfect dance class for your child at our Chesapeake, OH studio. When considering if your child is ready to dance, we highly recommend enrolling in dance class when you notice signs of moving, grooving, and creative tendencies in young dancers Ages 2-7. If your child is a bit older, we recommend trying dance class to create caring and inclusive friendships while working to acheive goals together.
Do parents stay in dance class?

During our Ages 2-3 and 4-5 Imagination Movers dance class, parents only welcome to sit in on dance classes, viewing each special moment as they learn in a new environment. For classes Ages 6 and older, parents are not permitted to sit in the classroom, but we welcome families to sit in our lobby, joining right in the fun that our studio culture provides!
Dance Class tuition is billed monthly, much like a membership to a gym! Dance classes are $45-$60/month, depending on age group and time. For more information, please view our class information.

How much do classes cost?
Is competition dance required?
No! Being a part of our competition team is the final tier within our various performance opportunities, meaning not only is competition not a requirement, but there are many different opportunities to perform on stage outside of competition teams. Each dancer’s journey is unique, and we are proud to be your guide as you find the best pathway to success for your dancer.

Our Dance Studio is proud to offer a wide-range of class style offerings, including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Musical Theater, Hip-Hop, Pom, Contemporary, Lyrical, Acro, Improv, Pre-Pointe, Pointe, and our perfected toddler dance program, Imagination Movers.

Ballet provides the technical, posture, and placement foundation that will transfer through dancers in many styles of dance. In this class, dancers focus on grace, strength, and flexibility through traditional barre work, center exercises, and combinations. Dancers will advanced technical abilities in Ballet class have the opportunity to take Pre-Pointe and Pointe classes.

Jazz dance class provides isolation, dynamics, and a movement quality technical foundation that will transfer with dancers throughout other dance classes. Jazz dance is energetic, expressive, and stylistic. Dancers will learn classic jazz technique intertwined with modern flair, focusing on kicks, leaps, turns, and dynamic choreography.

Imagination Movers is a in-house created program for our youngest dancers. Through the use of props, playfully-intentional activities, and lively themed months, dancers explore movement through creativity, finding a freedom of expression, while learning basic classroom structure, listening skills, locomotive skills, and age-appropriate coordiantion.

Tap classes develop musicality, timing, and rhythm as dancers use their feet like instruments. Dancers learn fundamental tap steps, combinations, and footwork, improving coordination and timing skills.

Musical Theater brings the magic of Broadway dance to life in every class! Perfect for performers, this class teaches characterization and interpretation through classic jazz technique and acting exercises. Musical Theater class builds character, self-esteem, confidence, and discipline.

Our hip-hop classes are energetic, age-appropriate, and focus on traditional technique from hip-hop culture. Dancers will explore street dance styles, freestyle movement, and upbeat choreography as they work to find dynamics and textures in their movement.

Part of our Spirit Performance Program, Pom dance classes prepare dancers to perform on Dance Teams at their local school! Pom dance combines sharp movements with jazz technique while creating visuals with the use of pom-poms.

Lyrical dance class combines Ballet and Jazz foundational technique to showcase emotional expression, fluid movement, and storytelling through dance. Dancers will learn how to morph their technique into new shapes, dynamics, and movement qualities.

Acro combines the strength and flexibility of basic tumbling in gymnastics with fluidity and grace of dance class. Dancers will work to develop new tumbling skills while improving flexibility, strength, and transitions.

Our Contemporary + Modern combination classes will incorporate many of the foundations of modern dance technique while exploring new forms of movement in unorthodox ways. Often compared to lyrical dance, Contemporary + Modern offers a completely different outlook on movement, focusing on the experimentation of movement, technique created by Graham and Horton, nontraditional shapes and forms, and conceptual choreography.

Creative and inspired dancers can find their dance space through Improvisation classes at our studio. Improv dance classes give students the opportunity to express themselves freely as they react to music, partners, and personal instincts in real time. This dynamic class helps movers break old habits, explore individual style, and build the physical and intellectual tools necessary to innovate their own choreography.

Pre-Pointe is a specialized preparatory class focusing on strengthening the feet, ankles, and core to safely transition to pointe shoes.

After completing the Pre-Pointe course, dancers who have developed strength and technique in ballet may move into Pointe classes. Pointe is a part of classical ballet dance where advanced performers rise up fully over their big toe in special shoes.
